International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to recognise the contribution of women across every sector of our community. At EveryMan, this contribution is reflected across our leadership, operations and frontline services. Women work across Violence Prevention Services, Men's Accommodation and Support, Counselling and Partner Advocacy and Support, helping men with high and complex needs stabilise their lives, build safer behaviours and improve outcomes for families and the broader Canberra community.
While many people understand that EveryMan works with men using violence, fewer realise that alongside this work sits a dedicated Partner Advocacy and Support team focused on the people affected by that violence.
The Partner Advocacy and Support team also works closely with multiple agencies to help ensure the safety of women and children. Having this service alongside our behaviour change programs allows for a more coordinated and informed approach to safety, with appropriate information sharing helping ensure responses remain aligned and focused on risk management. Bringing these services together under one roof supports stronger collaboration and a clearer focus on safety.
Women across EveryMan also contribute to counselling, accommodation and support services that assist men experiencing homelessness, trauma, isolation and complex mental health challenges. These roles often involve helping men stabilise their lives, reconnect with services, and begin addressing behaviours that affect themselves and those around them.
This work requires skill, professionalism and care from everyone involved. Supporting men to build safer behaviours and supporting those affected by harm are part of the broader effort to strengthen families and contribute to safer communities.
Together, these services reflect EveryMan’s integrated approach, bringing together behaviour change, partner advocacy, counselling, and accommodation support to respond to complex needs in a coordinated way.
On International Women’s Day, EveryMan acknowledges the women across the organisation whose knowledge, experience and professionalism contribute to this work every day. Their contribution sits alongside the work of colleagues across the organisation, forming part of the collective effort required to support change and build safer communities.
