When a nation's need for leadership gives way to populism, who pays the price?

The lives of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukamaran will serve as a testament to the capacity for a whole society to become, if just for a moment, a community able to reclaim even drug smugglers as its own, by embracing the possibility of change and redemption.

Our jails are full of people who share the humanity and possibility that Chan and Sukamaran will always embody. We would serve the memory of these two men well to bear that in mind.
